Medical X-ray film is used to capture images taken by X-ray equipment. It is a plastic sheet with a light-sensitive coating that picks up a certain spectrum of visible light from intensifying screens. General-purpose X-ray films have an emulsion layer on both sides and are used in combination with two reinforcing screens.

After exposure, a latent image is formed, which turns into a visible one in the process of chemical-photographic processing with special reagents.
